چکیده
Abstract Background and Aims Postoperative sore throat (POST) is common after endotracheal intubation making patients uncomfortable anxious in postoperative period. The present study was undertaken to compare efficacy of equal dose dexamethasone preventing POST via three different routes, i.e., intravenous, topical, nebulization before surgery. Methods Results prospective double-blind randomized parallel group trial included 190 either sex above 18 years, American Society Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status I–II posted for laparoscopic cholecystectomy. were divided into groups. Patients N nebulized with 8 mg prior surgery, I received intravenous (8 mg) induction anesthesia, while C intubated tube which pretreated (cuff soaked mg). severity hoarseness voice determined by interviewing 24-h completion Incidence decreased all maximum decrease (18%), 30.8% 30.4% C. This not statistically significant when compared ( p 0.14) as well 0.15). significantly (15.6%) (40.3%) (39.1%). 0.005) 0.009). Conclusions Topical (group C) effective decreasing incidence POST, both the techniques are voice. Nebulization most method hoarseness. Trial Registration CTRI/2017/08/009524 dated 29 August 2017 prospectively.

Sore throat and hoarseness after total intravenous anaesthesia.
BACKGROUND Sore throat and hoarseness are common complications, but these have not been studied after total i.v. anaesthesia. METHODS We prospectively studied 418 surgical patients, aged 15-92 yr, after total i.v. anaesthesia with propofol, fentanyl and ketamine to assess possible factors associated with sore throat and hoarseness. RESULT We found sore throat in 50% and hoarseness in 55% of...

Introduction: Presence of a sore throat after surgery is a common side effect of general anesthesia with intratracheal intubation and can cause discomfort for the patient and prolong the recovery process. In this study we compared the effect of dexamethasone before and after intubation on the incidence of sore throat after tympanoplasty surgery. Materials and Methods: In a double-blind, rando...

Several risk factors including female gender, postoperative nausea and vomiting and so on have been mentioned. OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to evaluate the incidence of postoperative sore throat in females and its associatio...
متن کاملEffects of topical dexamethasone in postoperative sore throat
BACKGROUND Postoperative sore throat (POST) is a complication that undermines patient satisfaction and increases discomfort in the postoperative period. The present study examined the effects of dexamethasone gargle and endotracheal tube cuff soaking on the incidence and severity of POST. METHODS Ninety patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy were randomly allocated into three groups...
متن کاملComparison of Effectiveness of Betamethasone gel Applied to the Tracheal Tube and IV Dexamethasone on Postoperative sore Throat: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Introduction: Postoperative sore throat is a common complaint in patients with endotracheal intubation and has potentially dangerous complications. This randomized controlled trial study investigated the incidence of postoperative sore throat after general anesthesia when betamethasone gel is applied to a tracheal tube compared with when IV dexamethasone is prescribed.
